Uluru (Ayers Rock) at last light - Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory, NT, Australia

Uluru, the Aboriginal and official name, is also known as Ayers Rock, it named by William Gosse in 1873 after Sir Henry Ayers.
It is a sacred part of Aboriginal creation mythology, or dreamtime - reality being a dream. Uluru is considered one of the great wonders of the world and one of Australia's most recognizable natural icons.

The ancient monolith is impressive close up and boasts intriguing statistics : 348 metres high ; 863 metres above sea level ; 3.6 km long ; 1.9 km wide ; 9.4 km around the base ; covers 3.33 km2 and extends about several km into the ground (no-one knows exactly how far)!
