The Dingo is Australia's wild dog. It is found in Australia, in all states but Tasmania. They are found throughout the mainland of Australia, close to a source of water.
Its exact ancestry is debated, but dingoes are generally believed to be descended from semi-domesticated dogs from Asia or India, which returned to a wild lifestyle when introduced to Australia.

Dingoes don't bark, but they do howl and usually stay and hunt in family groups or solitary. The dingo is the largest terrestrial predator in Australia, and plays an important role as an apex predator. However, the dingo is seen as a pest by livestock farmers due to attacks on animals.
For many Australians, the dingo is a cultural icon.
Despite being an efficient hunter, it is listed as vulnerable to extinction due to its susceptibility to genetic pollution: interbreeding with domestic dogs which could dilute its unique adaptations to the Australian environment.
