Ornate Ghost Pipefish. Females carry the eggs in their pelvic fins that are modified to form a brood pouch. She is hanging upside down, but if you look carefully you can see her eggs. Although relatively common, ornate ghost pipefish are very well-camouflaged and difficult to find. Taken while diving from the Dewi Nusantara in Wakatobi Indonesia.

I was photographing him, maybe 18" away, when he slowly reached toward me with the claw at the bend of one wing. Then he put my hand in his mouth and very gently tasted it, then my camera. I guess he decided I needed a good grooming, so he licked my hand and wrist, much like a cat would. I don't know why, but I knew he wasn't going to hurt me. He just seemed really curious.
