Banded demoiselle (Gebänderte Prachtlibelle) ♂

Odonata - Zygoptera - Calopterygidae - Calopteryx -
Calopteryx splendens
| (Harris, 1780)

Now that was funny: I was sitting at the lake in 100°F weather, feet in the water, shooting Artic terns when suddenly I saw something blue fly by out of the corner of my eye. I turned around and saw my prefered damsel sitting maybe 60cm away from me, eying me curiously. As I had the EF300mm f/4L on the cam - which has an MFD of 1.50m - I had to scramble to get far enough away from him, feet in the water and all. This shot is all I got - then he flew away...... __________________________________________________
