Heligoland (German: Helgoland; Heligolandic: deät Lun ["the Land"]) is a small German archipelago in the North Sea.
Formerly Danish and British possessions, the islands (population 1,650) are located in the Heligoland Bight (part of the German Bight) in the southeastern corner of the North Sea. They are the only German islands not in the immediate vicinity of the mainland and are approximately three hours' sailing time from Cuxhaven at the mouth of the River Elbe.

Helgoland ist Deutschlands am weitesten vom Festland entfernte Insel. Die Nordseeinsel liegt in der Deutschen Bucht und besteht aus der Hauptinsel, die sich in Unter-, Mittel- und Oberland gliedert, und der seit 1721 abgetrennten Insel Düne.
Helgoland bildet mit seinen etwa 1300 Einwohnern eine amtsfreie Gemeinde im Kreis Pinneberg in Schleswig-Holstein. Diese ist zwar Teil des deutschen Wirtschaftsgebiets, gehört aber weder zum Zollgebiet der Europäischen Union (Art. 3 Abs. 1 ZK) noch zum deutschen Steuergebiet.
