Processed to taste here, as with pretty much every shot I post, colours have been enhanced, but of course you need the colour to exist in the first place to have something to enhance. It was a lovely sight in this early light. Hard to tell where Astotin Lake is but the pier gives a clue. No pristine snow here as this is at the Astotin Lake Recreational area, which is by far the most popular area of all of Elk island National Park. With the lake frozen solid, so many visitors walk out on the lake and visit High Island that is seen in the distance.

I took a few different shots including one I have taken many times before with the pier front and center pointing to the island, but in this case I liked the poplar tree that seems to be isolated somewhat yet having a front row seat to the popular scenery as seen from the beach. For most of the year there is a picnic table near the tree which gives shade in the summer months, so it was nice to see the scene without the distraction of the picnic table.

Full disclosure, I did digitally remove a sandwich board that had a bright yellow sign on it. I don't often remove anything quite so prominent, but it did ruin the scene for me. The warning it contained was out of date so I feel that its removal by a digital method was fine, as it will likely be removed physically by staff quite soon.

Not part of a new series or anything, and not a really exciting shot, but I felt that it went well with the last series as an opposite. A low key image as opposed to the high key images that I posted.

The moon is visible just to the left of the light at center. Cloud or fog has diffused it so it is not as bright as the light in the lot. Processing and treatment of the image was inspired by the great series produced by Frank Loose's awesome set of images in his album called "Cover of Darkness. Low Key minimalism...some great stuff... www.flickr.com/photos/frankloose/albums/72157719431545104

I wish I had more images to make a series. Something to keep in mind for the future. I don't drive the highways at night if I do not have to so am limited to finding shots in my little town, but there must be some locations that are suitable if I take the time to look, so perhaps I will have something in the future
