At the last minute, my friends Paul, Mike, Miguel, and I raced to the inner valley of California to escape the haze that was fast accumulating. We decided to settle in at this decommissioned nuclear power plant outside of Lodi. To get to it we had to walk through what Mike called the Geiger Family vineyard. Radioactive grapes were not a concern however as the sky cleared and the moon went into full eclipse.

Taken at the end of another successful workshop with the Aperture Academy. I have a new 10 stop ND filter and wanted to see how well it worked. The students were all doing great by this time, so I set up and shot this. We had no sunset, but the moody sky made for some nice ambiance.

Jean Day and I will be heading out to Southern Utah and Northern Arizona later this week to teach a nine day workshop in those awesome deserts.

I was seeking a unique version of this place on a clear sky day... don't know if I did... but I like it.

I took this single image through Lightroom and then Photoshop to create the depth of field seen here while trying to stay as close to looking natural with no HDR like elements. It's hard because once you see all the details with the shadows almost completely removed it becomes a new reality to the mind and then you have to fight that in order to bring the picture back to being representational to what you saw... same goes for the colors. It's a war every time I go into post production.
