I have never experienced this lake without a wind tunnel effect before. I had a feeling this night however that this was exactly what I was going to find. The Mono Lake Basin was extremely calm, but even then this narrow canyon seems to like to produce it's own weather systems, so you can never be too sure.

Sometimes the effect of water turning to glass is made possible by doing a long exposure, and even though this is just that, this is pretty much what the lake looked like… sans the stars streaking through the night sky and that same sky turning a cobalt blue.

Not more than ten minutes after this picture was taken, the wind picked up and the glassy effect was gone.

I'm slowly learning to always trust my instincts.
