I got to spend an afternoon wandering around Clerkenwell just taking photos of anything that caught my eye.

It felt great to be just drifting around an unfamiliar part of a city, nice camera in hand, looking for photos where I could find them.

I've wanted to visit Tobermory ever since discovering Ledaig whiskey. The visitors centre was closed for a few summers but I finally had the time to make it out to the Western Highlands and over to Mull on this trip. It was well worth the effort, and well worth waiting for the sun.

The day I was told I was losing my job, I decided to book flights to the UK, having no intention of sitting around feeling sorry for myself.

Things have been changeable and uncertain, ever since, but I had no intention of cancelling my trip. So here is a photo from Easdale on the west coast of Scotland. Shot from the precarious vantage point of some slate shards jutting from the foreshore, having waited for the sun to break through and illuminate my subject. But this time for me, not for work.

In 2018 Andreas and I walked from Carlisle to Wallsend, for my 40th Birthday. Four years later and Andreas decided to ride from Bridlington to Morecambe.

Except whereas the Way of the Roses neatly stretches from coast-to-coast, the same isn't true of our Hadrian's Wall walk.

So, four years late, we walked from Bowness-on-Solway to Carlisle. 15 miles, starting at 2pm, when the only bus service gets to Bowness, to Carlisle. In October. The sun is low as we start and it's clear we're against the clock, right from the off.

The sunset was beautiful. Unfortunately this photo was taken nowhere near Carlisle.

After our jaunt across Yorkshire and Lancashire, Andreas and I headed north, taking detour through the Lakes on our way to Carlisle.

A chance for beautiful views, hillside teas and Kendal mint cake.
