This is an astonishing place: one of the hundreds of cisterns that were built in Byzantine times, which is situated near the Hagia Sophia. It is called the Basilica Cistern in English, or Yerebatan Sarnıcı in Turkish, which means Sunken Cistern.

There are two columns that have a Medusa head as their base, one upside down, and the other one sideways.
