User / Darvin Atkeson / A Monsoon Sunset at Mono Lake
Darvin Atkeson / 762 items
The summertime monsoons that recently affected Arizona and Nevada made its way westward and caused a number of thunderstorms over the Eastern Sierra deserts of California. Mono Lake is a saline lake that is saltier than the oceans and its vast area helps add to the moisture in the sky making for splendid sunsets over the deserts. In this image we are looking north toward the famous Ghost Town of Bodie. Lighting would strike just west of the Ghost Town and smoke which helped add deep yellow, orange and red to an already stunning sunset. The water had been calm but as the storms built to the north the wind picked up and waves started crashing ashore making Mono look more like an Ocean than a salt water lake.
