While Paris as New York never sleeps, the Eiffel Tower does. At 2 AM the lights turn off but for the hourly blinking which covers the building in jitter one last time. When it ends, an eerie pitch black steel structure remains, darker even than the sky surrounding it but for two red eyes, piercing through the night to ward off planes that will never come. A ghostly tower, throning over the city which is still as colourfully lit as if nothing had happened.
Yeah, call me overly dramatic but it is a spooky view indeed. Oh and if someone could tell me what the red lights are for, I'd be really glad. Nothing airborne bigger than a bird is allowed over Paris, so it can't really be signal lights for planes.

An area of former gardens where the tenants have been chased off, probably to make room for houses. For now they gardens are overgrown and look kind of desolate.
The shot is handheld and the unmodified JPEG right out of the camera. Focus was a bitch with this one. It was so dark that I didn't have any more luck seeing what was sharp than the autofocus had. I just turned the focus ring in the right ballpark and took several shots until I got it right.

The fountain next to the Centre Pompidou in Paris was still active although already partially frozen. This icicled structure was moving, that's why the icicles's angle is so strange.

We went for a walk at the shore of the Baltic Sea near Dahme just south of Fehmarn when it started to snow. Soon all the sand was covered by a very thin layer of fine powdery snow. It was a wonderful atmosphere but when the snowfall started to get heavier we had to give in to the icy wind and walk back home.
For some reason some of the photos including this one have a kind of old photo/film look to them. I did some very mild processing to enhance this effect but it basically came out of the camera like this.
