🔴 El Super Hornet es llamado informalmente 'Rhino' para distinguirlo de los 'Hornet' y evitar la confusión en las llamadas por radio. Esto ayuda en las operaciones embarcadas ya que la catapulta y los sistemas de detención deben ser preparados de forma distinta.

Como el apodo 'Hornet' ya estaba en uso, 'Super Hornet' tiene demasiadas sílabas y nadie iba a llamarlos 'Super', se les ocurrió 'Rhino' por la antena IFF (identificación amigo/enemigo) con forma de caja de pizza que tiene en el morro y que parece un cuerno de rinoceronte cortado.

🔵 The Super Hornet is informally called 'Rhino' to distinguish it from the 'Hornet' and avoid confusion in radio calls, specially in carrier operations where the catapult and arresting systems must be prepared differently.

Since the nickname 'Hornet' was already in use, 'Super Hornet' has too many syllables and no one was going to call them 'Super', they came up with 'Rhino' because of the 'pizza box-shaped' IFF (identification friend/foe) antenna that It has on its nose and it looks like a cut rhino horn.
