“The mountain has left me feeling renewed, more content and positive than I’ve been for weeks, as if something has been given back after a long absence, as if my eyes have opened once again. For this time at least, I’ve let myself be rooted in the unshakable sanity of the senses, spared my mind the burden of too much thinking, turned myself outward to experience the world and inward to savor the pleasures it has given me.” ~ Richard Nelson

Woke up this morning to a beautiful day; crisp, cool, a feel of autumn in the air, and it reminded me of our first night in Banff. We visited this area back in 2003 and both recalled thinking to ourselves and to each other that the Canadian Rockies are one of the most beautiful places on earth, so we were eager to return to the area last month and see if we still felt the same. Our friends, Joe, Lorien, and Bev, had suggested that we take a scenic route from Glacier to Banff via Kannanaskis Country, and WOW, what an incredible journey...lots of oohs and aahs the entire trip. We enjoyed a beautiful day with our friends before heading out to Vermillion Lakes for sunset, and this is just one of many tranquil scenes we were treated to; hope you enjoy :-)
Be sure to check out our friend's photostreams as well, JoLoLog and Bev's pics; you won't be disappointed. Have a great Sunday, and as always, thanks for stopping by to visit :-)

Mountains inspire awe in any human person who has a soul. They remind us of our frailty, our
unimportance, of the briefness of our span upon this earth. They touch the heavens, and sail serenely at an altitude beyond even the imaginings of a mere mortal. ~ Elizabeth Aston

Yes folks, it really is this color, especially in the early morning light and from a higher vantage point. Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet. The lake has a surface area of .5 square kilometres (0.19 sq mi). The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. When it is full, it reflects a distinct shade of blue. The color is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis. (source: wikipedia)

This past Sunday, we got up bright and early to head from Banff to Great Falls. Mike asked me the night before where I wanted to go for sunrise, and I told him I wasn't worried about going anywhere in particular. After loading the SUV, we headed out onto the Bow Valley Parkway, headed for the Trans Canada Highway. The temperature was rather brisk (low 30's), and we both noticed fresh snowfall on all the mountain peaks. It appeared to be very overcast and dreary at first, but as the morning light began to make its appearance, I could tell we were in for a real treat. So in usual fashion, I asked Mike to pull over at a small picnic area along the highway, and off we went in search of our last mountain sunrise....and WOW, talk about incredible...the simple things in life really are the best!!!!
Hope everyone is enjoying their week....still sorting through lots of images and trying to process a few as time allows; hopefully I will have more time over the weekend to get things organized. Thanks for all your visits and comments; I appreciate them all.
