Samaná is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. It is known for its mountains of which it is almost entirely formed. Samaná is considered one of the most beautiful areas of the Dominican Republic, yet remains one of the least known by Dominican natives in general and foreign visitors in particular. Its tourist industry has not yet exploited the full potential of its location: the tropical forests, coconut groves, hundreds of cozy alcove beaches with turquoise crystal clear waters, waterfalls, protected national parks, a protected bay, and a peninsula. (source: wikipedia)

Interesting to note is that Samana is not yet a developed cruise port, and therefore, cruise ships that visit the island must anchor at sea and tender their guests ashore (ms. Noordam is located in the far background). More interesting to note is that I didn't even realize until we returned to the ship later in the day that we were tendered ashore by our ships' lifeboats....not very observant for a master's level psych graduate :-)....but nice to know that the lifeboats are constructed well and equipped to handle large numbers of passengers. Have a great Tuesday!!!!

How can you visit the Caribbean and not have a few Buffet tunes playing in your head, such as Jimmy's Island Fever song,

"Palm trees and views I can't believe
Why would I ever want to leave?
I think I'll take my shoes off and go walking
Down beside the Caribbean Sea.
I like the funny sounds of parrots squawking
I think I hear a hammock calling me."

Walking along the beach in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic, and I couldn't help but start humming a tune from the Zac Brown Band.....feel free to join in if you know it......

"There's a place, where the boat leaves from
It takes away all your big problems
You got worries you can drop them in the blue ocean
But you gotta get away to where the boat leaves from
Take one part sand, and one part sea, one part shade of a banana tree
The drinks they're cold and the reggae's hot
And I know this is the place for me..."

Hope everyone enjoyed the long holiday weekend.....here's to the start of another great week and one day closer to our September trip out west :-) Thanks for you support!!!!

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” ~ William Arthur Ward

or better yet, as Bob Dylan would say, “The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind...” View On Black
