At 8,803 feet above sea level, Point Imperial overlook treats travelers to the northernmost view of the Grand Canyon. Here, the Colorado River spills from the spire-like walls of Marble Gorge.
Initial post was a bit hazy; still a sight to behold. But thanks to my friend, Gary, for reworking the image and giving it that extra "pop." I love it!!!!

Remote, rugged, and beautiful....the only way to explain the sheer vastness of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon....this image was shot somewhere along the Cape Royal viewpoint.
As always, thanks for all the wonderful comments & invites!!!

The major geologic exposures in the Grand Canyon range in age from the 2 billion year old Vishnu Schist at the bottom of the Inner Gorge to the 230 million year old Kaibab Limestone on the Rim. Interestingly, there is a gap of about one billion years between the stratum that is about 500 million years old and the lower level, which is about 1.5 billion years old. That indicates a period of erosion between two periods of deposition.

North Rim of the Grand Canyon, taken from Cape Royal viewpoint.....from this vantage point you can see the Colorado River off in the distance. The river is located approximately 10 miles away.....visitors have a much closer view of the Colorado River from the South Rim, but the North Rim offers visitors a much more remote & less visited terrain. Thanks to my friend, Gary, for the editing work :-)
