3rd August (evening) 2019 at Woodlands Hotel (Conservatory), Sidmouth.

"The Tradition Gathers" (first evening of "Traditional Night Out"), Sidmouth Folk Festival (previously called Sidmouth Folk Week).

Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Traditional Scottish Folk.

Lineup: Sheena Wellington (v).

Sheena Wellington (74 later in August) is from Dundee and has moved back after many years in Fife. I saw her performing with Ishbel MacAskill on my first visit to Sidmouth in 1997 (then it was the Sidmouth International Folk Arts Festival). I took photos of her at Celtic Connections at a "Dewar Award Winners" concert in 2012 and a "Songs of Struggle" one in 2013 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/sheenawellington,-...). Here she sang "Women O' Dundee", "The Shearing's not for you" and Jim Reid's setting of Violet Jacob's poem "Norlan' Wind".

3rd August (evening) 2019 at Woodlands Hotel (Conservatory), Sidmouth.

"The Tradition Gathers" (first evening of "Traditional Night Out"), Sidmouth Folk Festival (previously called Sidmouth Folk Week).

Country: Britain. Style: Traditional English Folk & Music Hall.

Lineup: Alvar Smith (v/banjo), Derek Simpson (v/melodeon), Rob Neal (v/cello).

The three members of this group are based in East Suffolk. Alvar Smith and Rob Neal were born there, while Drek Simpson was born in Cambridge. They focus on Our East Anglian songs and tunes and Music Hall. I have photographed them before: all three in a larger "Suffolk Night" grouping put together by Simpson (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157634495761538/); Neal and Smith as part of Katie’s Quartet (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157628414950419/), and Smith as a performer at one of 2017 "Traditional Night Out" evenings (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157686269847390/).
In this photo: Neal playing the cello is hidden behind Smith.
