Okinawa Day (annual free festival), www.facebook.com/okinawadayinlondon.
This year was the 11th for the festival which takes place at Bishops Square by Spitalfield's Market. For photos of the 2016 event see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157671125035785/. In recent years the number of guest musicians from abroad has increased and for the fist time they took part in a concert the evening before the day.

Country: France & Japan (French resident). Style: Traditional Okinawan (Miyako).
Lineup: 8 x v/sanshin with Florian Bricard (shime-daiko/okinawan odaiko).

The Club was founded in 2009 by Florian Bricard (currenltly living in Okinawa) and Sylvain Berard. Some of its 20 members had travelled to London for the festival. They performed songs from Miyako Island in the south of Okinawa.

Florian Bricard founded the Paris Sanshin Club and now lives in Okinawa working as an interpreter for the Interpreter for the Naha City Tourism Association. He performed a song from Miyako Island in the south of Okinawa.

Yogi Masaki is a folk music teacher and sanshin maker from Miyako Island in the south of Okinawa..

Lineup: dancers with 4 x sanshin (including Yogi Masaki, Florian Bricard, Mark Griffiths), 1 x drums (shime-daiko/okinawan odaiko).

A dance not included in the programme was added midway through the concert. Many of the dancers were members of the Paris Sanshin Club. The accompanying musicians included festival guest performers and members of the London Okinawa Sanshinkai.
