Della Daniels and Angelia Taylor are sisters and Ester Mae Smith their first cousin, and are in their sixties. They live in Panola County, Mississippi (about 45 miles south of Memphis). They have sung in church all their lives, and were "discovered" in 2005 when a New York record label Daptone held a recording session at the Mount Moriah CME (Christian Methodist Episcopal) Church in Como. Alan Lomax recorded their grandfather, the blues guitar Miles Pratcher, in the same town in 1959. At the 100 Club with an audience of probably mostly unbelievers they came as close to generating an atmosphere usually limited to churches (with the exception ofthe New Orleans Jazzfest Gospel Tent).
