15th July (midday) 2018 at the Lemon Tree, Aberdeen.

North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) (free event), www.northatlanticfiddle.com/.

Country: Spain - Galicia & United States. Style: Traditional Galician.

Lineup: Alfonso Franco (fiddle), Neil Pearlman (p), Xose Liz (bouzouki/flute).

Alfonso Franco Vásquez has been part of the in the Galician traditional music scene since the 1980s. He has played a key role in making the fiddle a significant part of the music (for a long time the instrument was only played by blind street performers) through his teaching at E-Trad (Escola Municipal de Música Folk e Tradicional de Vigo) and the San Simón Fiddle Camps. He has come to every NAFCo since 2008 bringing with him a growing Galician contingent (this year approaching fifty). Franco is currently recording a new album with Neil Pearlman, the pianist from Boston, and the two of them were joined by Xose Liz (this time playing some flute as well as bouzouki). I took several photos of all three of them at different events during NAFCo. To view click on the musician's name in my tags. I also photographed Pearlman in 2015 playing mandolin at a session at Celtic Connections (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/neilpearlman,session/).
