5th August 2017 at Ham Marquee, Sidmouth.

Sidmouth Folk Week.

Country: Australia & Britain. Style: Georgian, Ballads, Vaudeville, Covers, etc.

Lineup: Stephen Taberner (choir leader) and 15 vocalists..

Stephen Taberner from Christchurch, New Zealand moved to Australia in 1989 to study Jazz (he plays double bass). Soon he became involved in Choral music and founded the Spooky Men in 2001. I saw them at Towersey in 2006 on what I think was their first European tour. When in the UK the choir adds British members to those who travel from Australia. The group's style owes much to Georgian polyphonic singing, though most of the songs are their own humorous compositions and pop covers.

In this photo: The group don their version of sikkes to perform "Ba’hari Ghibb" a Sufi style song which incorporates "Stayin’ Alive".
