2nd June 2017 at Royal Festival Hall (Bar level 2), London SE1.

Friday Tonic (free event).

Country: Britain. Style: New Orleans style Brass Band / Jazz - vaious styles.

Lineup: Nick Waters (trumpet), Trevor Miles (trombone/sousaphone), Julian Siegel (tenor sax) [dep], Graham Hughes (sousaphone/trombone/v), John Blease (d).

The full name of this band is Ben Somer's Brass Hysteria. I had seen Somers with Bluegrass / Old Time / Country bands, so was interested in seeing for the first time an example of his parallel Jazz career. Unfortunately he was ill and replaced on sax by Julian Siegel. This also meant a change of repertoire. The band normally play original compositions by Somers. Instead they concentrated on more familiar New Orleans Brass Band tunes (mainly from Graham Hughes' songbook)."Lilly of the Valley", "Junco Partner", "Mardi Gras in New Irleans", "I'm Walking", "Grazing in the Grass" and compositiond by Leoy Jones, Blue Mitchell and the Skatelites. I have taken photos before of Siegel with a group of his own and Partisans (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/juliansiegel,-bras...), Hughes with Brass Volcanoes and Barry Martyn (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/grahamhughes,-bras...), and Blease with Brass Mask (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/johnblease,-brassh...).
