1st April 2017 at Cecil Sharp House (Kennedy Hall), London NW1.

Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Traditional Scottish Folk.

Lineup: Aly Bain (fiddle), Phil Cunningham (piano accordion).

Aly Bain is from Lerwick, Shetland and first became known in Boys of the Lough and duos with Dick Gaughan and Mike Whellans. Phil Cunningham is from Portobello near Edinburgh and started out in Silly Wizard and Relativity. They knew each other for a while but didn't perform together until 1985 when Cunningham stood in for a pianist who had travel problems. This led to a short tour in 1986 whch has now extended to 31 years of touring together. They played mostly Scottish Traditional and self composed tunes, with other sets from Quebec, Cape Breton and Sweden. The evening contained their usual hilarous anecdotes and banter, much of it developed through repetition and probably some embellishment. I've seen them as a duo twice before (at Hammersmith Irish Centre and Kings Place), but this was the first time I have taken photos. I did photograph Bain with Bruce Molsky and Ale Möller in 2010, see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157625540625666/.
