18th January 2019 at St Andrew’s in the Square, Glasgow (supporting Brighde Chaimbeul).
Celtic Connections Festival, www.celticconnections.com/.
Country: Sweden & Britain (Swedish resident). Style: own compositions & Traditional Swedish.
Lineup: Niklas Roswall (nyckelharpa/moraharpa), Ian Carr (g).
Niklas Roswall is from Skåne county (in the south of Sweden). Ian Carr is originally from Penrith in the Lake District and moved to Sweden in 2001 (he now llives in Dalarna county in the middle of the country). They recorded an album in 2003 and toured in the aftermath (I saw them at the Norwich Festival of European & Celtic Music & Dance in 2005). In 2018 they came together again for a second album. Here they performed their own compositions apart from two traditional tunes (one from Roswall's home area and a Lapp-Nils one from Jämtland). Rosewall played both a contemporary nyckelharpa and a reproduction of an early version (a moraharpa). I photographed Rosewall in the trio Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall in 2013 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157632657005276/). I have seen Carr jn numerous bands over the years (Swåp, Kate Rusby, Julie Fowlis, John McCusker) but have only taken photos once before with Kris Drever in 2016 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157664452496326/).
