The original members of Calan met at Ethno summer school in Sweden in 2005, and played their first gig in 2008. The current lineup includes Patrick Rimes and Sam Humphreys from North Wales (Bethesda and Nefyn), Angharad Jenkins from Swansea and Bethan Williams-Jones from Newport. They have recently added an English musician (replacing original harpist Llinos Eleri) Alice French, originally from Nunnington, near York and now based in Newquay, Cornwall.
