3rd June 2016 at King and Queen, London W1.
“Dublin Night”, Musical Traditions Folk Club, www.englishfolkinfo.org.uk/mustrad/mtc.html.
This evening consisted mostly of songs about or associated with Dublin (e.g. "Biddy Mulligan, "The Forgetful Sailor", "The Maid of Cabra West", "The Ragman's Ball", "The Charlady's Ball"). More specifically of songs relating to James Joyce (given the proximity to the 16th June the annual Bloomsday celebration derived from the day in 1904 on which the action of Ulysses takes place), and concerning the Easter Rising (with the 100th anniversary happening during the preceeding month).
Country: Ireland. Style: Style: Traditional Irish Folk.
Lineup: Luke Cheevers (v).
Luke Cheevers is from Ringsend and is one of the stalwarts of the Góilín Club (the Dublin Singers Club). This was the first time I had seen him since the Sidmouth Festival in 1997.
