Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso are both from Bahia in eastern Brazil (from Salvador/Ituaçu and Santo Amaro da Purificação repectively) and are both now 73. They were part of the Tropicália movement and started recording around 1965. For the last year they have toured together under the banner "Dois Amigos, Um Século de Música" (releasing an album of the same name).
