15th April 2016 at Kings Place (Hall Two), London N1.

Part of Folk at Kings Place (formerly Folk Union).

Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Traditional Scottish Folk (and some American).

Lineup: Rachel Newton (v/clarsach), Lauren MacColl (fiddle), Mattie Foulds (d).

Rachel Newton was born in Edinburgh and grew up there and (during her school holidays) Achiltibuie in Ross and Cromarty, which is where her mother is from. Her interest in Gaelic culture and music came through attending a Gaelic medium school and involvement in the Fèisean movement. This gig launched her new album "Here’s My Heart Come Take It". Apart from the Scots folksongs (some in Gaeilic), there were some American ones, and also covers of "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and "Jolene". I have previously taken photos of Newton (with the Furrow Collective and Rona Wilkie), see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/rachelnewton/, and of Lauren MacColl (solo, with the Ewan McLennan Trio and as a dep with Fribo), see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/laurenmaccoll/.
