24th February 2016 at Old Queen’s Head, London N1.

Organised by the Nest Collective, thenestcollective.co.uk/.

Country: United States. Style: Traditional American Folk.

Lineup: Jim Kweskin (v/g/banjo), Ben Paley (fiddle), Tali Trow (b), and guest: Bonnie Dobson (v).

Jim Kweskin from Stamford, CT was part of the Cambridge/Boston music scene in the 1960s, notably with his Jug Band. After breaking up the band, his musical appearances and recordings became rarer as he concentrated on his involvement with the Foot Hill community/construction company. In the last decade they have become more frequent, including some Jug Band reunions. This was his first gig in the UK at the age of 75. He cited the Harry Smith anthology as a key influence. Doing several songs from it, and many others which could have found a place there. I have taken photos before of Ben Paley with the New Deal String Band, the Long Hill Ramblers, his duo with Tab Hunter, and accompanying Sara Grey, and of Trow with the Coal Porters. In this photo: Kweskin plays a Martin D-18.
