This group consists of Joshua Redman (from Berkeley, CA), Aaron Parks (from Seattle, WA), Matt Penman (from New Zealand), Eric Harland (from Houston, TX). It first played together on a Redman date at the 2009 Montreal Jazz Festival (when they toured a year they had adopted their current name). Redman, Penman and Harland had been members of the SF JAZZ Collective (only Penman is still with that band). Penman and Harland had also accompanied Parks on his first album. This was James Farm's first gig in the UK, but they have all been over here before. I have seen the SF JAZZ Collective back in 2006, and also Redman with his own group (three times) and with Brad Mehldau, Parks with Terence Blanchard and Penman with John Scofoeld. The tunes played at this gig were all composed by band members, all four doing some writing.
