21st May 2015 at Union Chapel, London N1.

Country: Britain (including Scotland). Style: Contemporary Folk / Electronica.

Lineup: Aidan O'Rourke (fiddle), Martin Green (piano accordion/keyboard/sporkatron), Kris Drever (v/g) with the : Emma Smith (violin), Jennymay Logan (violin), Nic Pendlebury (viola), Laura Moody (cello).

Lau consists of Kris Drever (from Orkney), Aidan O’Rourke (from Oban in Argyll) and Martin Green (from East Anglia). Leaving aside short Celtic Connections Festival Club sets, I have seen Lau five times before. These were all a while ago (between August 2006 and May 2009), and they have changed a lot since then. The band has always added other influences (Rock, Classical, Jazz) to Folk, but in recent years they have taken large steps in the direction of Electronica. The final part of the gig featured the Elysian Quartet who joined Lau for a PRS for Music Foundation New Music Biennial commission. For the Quartet Nic Pendlebury replaced the recently deceased Vincent Sipprell. I took photos of Lau at the Celtic Connections Festival Club in 2011 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157625811547273/) and the Elysian Quartet with Maya Youssef at the Celebrating Sanctuary Festival in 2012 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157630403360986/).
