25th January 2015 at the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow.

Celtic Connections Festival, www.celticconnections.com/.

Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Traditional Scottish Folk.

Lineup: Brian Cromarty (v/banjo/mandolin), Douglas Montgomery (fiddle), Kenny Ritch (fiddle), Bob Gibson (piano accordion), Gavin Firth (g), Andrew Gifford (bass g), Erik Laughton (d), Robbie Thomson (percussion) and guests: Fionn McArthur (fiddle), Marie Montgomery (v), members of Fara.

This band from Orkney came together in 2004 (originally as Lazy Boy Chair). They are a band for dancing, their self description is “red-blooded stomp music”. This was the first time I’d seen them in an appropriate environment – the other occasions were as a support act at the Royal Concert Hall Main Auditorium in 2008 and at a very sparsely attended City of London Festival event in 2009. They were joined for the entire evening by their former band member Fionn McArthur, for several tunes by the members of support band Fara (originally the Chairettes), and for one song by Douglas Montgomery’s wife (who is also Brian Cromarty’s sister).
In this photo: Cromarty plays an Ibanez banjo.
