Country: Spain - Asturias. Style: Traditional Asturian.

Lineup: Fonsu Mielgo (percussion/whistle), Xuan Rodríguez Muñiz (gaita/low whistle), Simon Bradley (fiddle), Elías García (bouzouki), Xel Pereda (v/g) and guests: Odón García (v), Ross Ainslie (highland bagpipes), Gavin Pennycook (fiddle), Elidh Shaw (fiddle), Anna-Wendy Stevenson (fiddle), Michael McGoldrick (flute), Phil Smillie (flute/low whistle), Mairearad Green (piano accordion), Donald Shaw (piano accordion), Iain MacLeod (mandolin), Matheu Watson (banjo), James Mackintosh (d/percussion).

Llan de Cubel have played a major role in gaining Asturian music international recognition, and have been frequent visitors to Celtic Connections. Mielgo and Garcia were among the founders of the group in 1984 and the other three members here joined in the mid to late 1990s. The band were supplemented on stage by Odón García, a performer of the Asturian vocal style Tonada, and a great array of local musicians. I have previously taken photos of all the British guests apart from Pennycook, Elidh Shaw and Stevenson (to view click on the tag of the musician's name).
