Lineup: Nicky Schrire (v), Adam Waldmann (soprano sax), Tom Hewson (p), Matt Ridley (b), Dave Hamblett (d).

Nicky Schrire was born to South African parents in London. Five years later they returned home, and 18 years after that she moved from Capetown to New York, initially to study, After 5 years in the USA, she decided this year to base herself in London (whist continuing to make frequent visits to her two previous homes). The set was made up of her own compositions, apart from one standard - Edward C Redding’s “End of a Love Affair” - and one by the South African singer Busi Mhlongo - “Yise Wabant’a Bami” (which she followed by a spontaneous solo version of Mhlogo’s “Oxamu” for a young relative).
