28th November 2014 at Kings Place (Hall Two), London N1.
Part of Folk Union series.
Country: Britain - Scotland (United States resident) & United States (Canadian resident). Style: Traditional Scottish Folk.
Lineup: Alasdair Fraser (fiddle), Natalie Haas (cello).
59 year old Alasdair Fraser and 31 year old Natalie Haas have revived the traditional Scottish fiddle-cello duo format. Fraser from Clackmannan in the central lowlands has lived in the USA since 1981 -currently in the Sierra Nevada foothills of northern California. Haas from Menlo Park in the Bay Area, now resides in Montreal, QC. The two met when Haas aged 11 attended one of Fraser’s Fiddle Schools. They started doing concerts together 4 years later. The gig included some Swedish, Finnish and Spanish tunes as well as Scottish ones. This was the first time I had heard about Fraser and Haas playing in London. I took photos of them in 2011 at Celtic Connections in Glasgow with the Campbells of Greepe, see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157625936806458/. I also saw the duo perform in 2006 in Edinburgh (at the Festival Fringe) and in Aberdeen (at the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention).
