2nd November 2014 at Ralph Allen School, Bath.
(mostly) Annual Weekend event, sites.google.com/site/legrandbaldebath/.
After a year off in 2013 the Grand Bal was back (for its 21st version).
Country: France - Bretagne. Style: Traditional Breton.
Lineup: Bruno Le Tron (diatonic accordion), Franck Fagon (soprano sax/clarinet), Ali Othmane (g), Olivier Le Gallo (percussion/whistle) and guests: Serge Liorzou (bombarde), Jean-Luc Gueneau (hurdy gurdy), Dave Shepherd (violin).
Bruno Le Tron was born near Paris and in different bands plays the music of both Brittany and Central France. He founded this band (with Olivier Le Gallo and others) in 1989. I had never seen them before, but have seen Le Tron with Bopiano (2006), le Vrai Trio (2006) and a duo with Regis Reynaud (2005). Among the guests who joined them on stage was Serge Liorzou (teaching Breton dance at the weekend) who was a member of Maubuissons from 1989 to 2002. He now plays with Reuz a Dreuz (who I saw at the Grand Bal in 2005 and 2009).
