16th October 2014 at Horseshoe, London EC1.
Islington Folk Club, www.islingtonfolkclub.co.uk/ifc.html.
Country: Britain. Style: Traditional English Folk & music from other countries.
Lineup: Emily Askew (fiddle), Deborah Chalmers (fiddle/dance [Morris]), Sarah Jones (fiddle), Nicola Lyons (fiddle/dance [Clog]), Adrian Lever (g).
Alma are a very new project (this was their first full length gig) bringing together musicians already active in numerous other ensembles. As well as English tunes they played one from elsewhere in the world including Sweden, Spain, Belgium (or maybe France), Tunisia and Iraq. Many of them learned at Ethno summer camps (it was at gatherings like these where most of the group first met). I’ve taken photos before of two of the band. Emily Askew with the Askew Sisters - see www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157630493438270/ and www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157625733455881/ - and Deborah Chalmers with the Belles of London City (once as a dancer and once as a fiddle player - see www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157635908298774/ and
