6th September 2014 at Exmouth Arms, London NW1.
Cellar Upstairs Folk Club, www.cellarupstairs.org.uk/.
Country: United States (British resident) & Britain. Style: Traditional American Folk - Old Time.
Lineup: Tom Paley (v/banjo/g/fiddle/harmonica), Joe Locker (v/g/banjo/autoharp), Ben Paley (fiddle/v) and guest: Jim Younger (g).
This band (not the North Carolina Bluegrass outfit of the same name) brings together two London based New Yorkers - Tom Paley (founder member of the New Lost City Ramblers) and Joe Locker (various groups including briefly a duo with Alex Campbell). They played together with a variety of fiddlers (including Robin Williamson, Janet Kerr and Bobby Campbell) from 1966 into the 1970s. Then, after a break, reformed in the 1990s with Tom’s son Ben. They play the string band music of the 1920s and 30s. It is 7 years since I last saw the band, so this is the first time I’ve taken photos of them together. However I have photographed all all before - Tom doing various floor and guest spots around London, Joe with Davis, Locker & Winquist and Ben with Tab Hunter, the Long Hill Ramblers and Sara Grey (to view click on the tag of their names).
