23rd June 2014 at Finsbury Avenue Square, London EC2..

City of London Festival (free event), www.colf.org/.

Country: Britain. Style: Traditional English (& other) Folk - Sea Shanties.

Lineup: Sam Brookes (v/bodhrán), Jamie Doe (v), Pete Truin (v/g).

The Ballina Whalers are three young singers with a much smoother take on sea shanties than most shanty crews. They are taking these songs to different types of venues. They perform material from England, Australia and the United States, both shanties and ballads about seafarers. Both traditional and more recent compositions (e.g. the Harry Robertson’s song from which they take their name and Cyril Tawney’s “The Grey Funnel Line”).
