Caetano Veloso is from Santo Amaro da Purificação in Bahia in eastern Brazil. He first achieved fame in the 1960s as part of the Tropicalismo musical movement (this introduced American/British styles and imaginative lyrics into Brazilian popular music). Here he was joined by three young musicans who have been part of his last three albums. For his encore he performed two songs in English (“London, London”, “Nine Out of Ten”) from 1970-71, written during his exile in the UK.
