29th April 2014 in Louisiana Music Factory, New Orleans, USA.
In-Store Showcase, www.louisianamusicfactory.com/default.asp.
Country: United States - New Orleans. Style: Latin Rock.
Lineup: Rod Hodges (v/g), Joe Cabral (v/bajo sexto/tenor sax), Rene Coman (bass g), Doug Garrison (d).
Only Coman was born in New Orleans, but all the other members of the Iguanas are longstanding residents of the city. Formed in 1989 the band has had a remarkably stable lineup (with the exception of sax player Derek Houston’s departure whilst they had temporarily relocated to Texas following Katrina). They mix Conjunto and Rock with New Orlean’s R and B. The first of these is in large part down to Hodges exploring the heritage of his Mexican mother. I have also taken a photo of Cabral with the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars at this Jazzfest. To view click on the tag of his name.
