3rd March 2014 at the Green Note, London NW1.

Folk and Roots / Folk on Monday, folkandroots.co.uk/.

Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Traditional Scottish Folk.

Fiona Hunter is from Glasgow and Mike Vass from Nairn (near Inverness), but now resident in Glasgow. Both are members of Malinky (these days largely inactive, but not over). The performance mostly consists of songs from Hunter’s recent album and included: “The Cruel Mother”, “The Laird o’ Drum”, “Young Emslie”, “The Bleacher Lass o’ Kelvinhaugh”, “Jock Hawk’s Adventures In Glasgow”, “Thou Cauld Gloomy Feberwar”, “The Weary Pund” (Robert Burns), “Braes o’ Gleniffer” (Robert Tannahill), “Shift and Spin” (Ewan McVicar), “Heave Ya Ho” (Davey Steel), “Ye Heilan’ Chields” (Andy Hunter). I’ve taken photos of Hunter before with with Malinky and Lorne MacDougall, and of Vass with Paul McKenna, Kathleen MacInnes and his sister Ali (to view click on the tags of their names).
