25th January 2014 at the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow.

Celtic Connections Festival, www.celticconnections.com/.

Country: France - Bretagne. Style: Traditional Breton.

Lineup: Yann-Fañch Kemener (v), Jean-Michel Veillon (flute), Gilles le Bigot (g), Alain Genty (bass g), David Hopkins (percussion).

Breton Night at Celtic Connections consisted to Barzaz and the Ronan Le Bars Group playing to a sitting audience, followed by the seats being cleared away for a dance (Fest Noz).

The band Barzaz originally played together between 1988 and 1993, and have recently reformed. Starting out as a trio, they were later joined by Genty and Hopkins (from Belfast and who moved to Brittany in 1992). These musicans have also been members of Kornog (Veillon, le Bigot), Den (Veillon, Genty), Skolvan (le Bigot), and Gwerz (Genty). In the past I’ve taken photyos of Kemener with a cello player at the Brosella in 2007 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157626254826974/) and
Veillon solo at the Hammersmith Irish Centre in 2012 (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157629174247422/).
