11th October 2013 at Kings Place (Hall Two), London N1.

Part of Folk Union series.

Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Contemporary & Traditional Scottish Folk.

Lineup: Mary Macmaster (v/electro-harp), Sally Barker (v/g), Mairearad Green (piano accordion/v), Eilidh Shaw (fiddle/v).

The Poozies (apparently named after Poosie Nancy’s Tavern in Mauchline, Ayreshire) were formed in 1990 by Mary Macmaster and Patsy Seddon, as an expanded lineup to add to their existing duo Sileas. The current band is Mary Macmaster (from Glasgow), Sally Barker from Leicestershire), Mairearad Green (from Wester Ross) and Eilidh Shaw (from Argyllshire). Only Macmaster was there the first time I saw the Poozies in 1998 (though Barker had been in the first version). I last saw them in 2010 not long before Seddon left. The songs were all contemporary (by band members or the likes of Laura Viers and Lynn Miles), the tunes recent compositions in a Traditional style (by band members, ex-member Karen Tweed and others such as Donald Shaw and Liz Carroll). I’ve previously taken photos of Mairearad Green with Anna Massie: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157629183051829/.
In this photo: Macmaster plays a Camac Electro-harp.
