6th October 2013 at Barbican, London EC2.

Part of Transcender Festival.

Country: Pakistan. Style: Qawwali & Flamenco.

Lineup: Faiz Ali Faiz (v) Chicuelo [Juan Gómez] (g), Tomás de Perrate [Tomás Fernández Soto] (v), David Lagos (v), Ali Shabaz (harmonium/v), Karamat Ali Asad (harmonium/v), Nazar Abbas (v), Shahid Fareed (tabla), Isaac Vigueras (cajón/d), and Special Guest: Carmen Linares [Carmen Pacheco Rodriguez] (v).

Faiz Ali Faiz from Sharaqpur in Punjab Province has a history of collaborations joining Qawwali with musical styles from other countries. I’ve seen him at the Barbican in 2006 with "Qawwali Flamenco" (which also included Chicuelo) and in 2010 with “Jaadu” with Titi Robin’s mix of Gypsy and Arabic music. This time the cantaores were Tomás de Perrate (from Utrera), David Lagos (from Jerez) and Carmen Linares (from Linares in Jaén Province). I’ve seen Linares before in 2005 and 2008 (both at Sadler's Wells) and 2009 at the Barbican.
