3rd July 2013 at Guildhall Yard, London EC2.

City of London Festival (free event), www.colf.org/.

Country: Britain. Style: Jazz - Modern/Mainstream.

Lineup: Mark Nightingale (trombone), Andy Panayi (tenor sax), Ross Stanley (p), Sam Burgess (b), Steve Brown (d).

This gig was billed as the Mark Nightingale / Nigel Hitchcock Quintet, but the latter was away touring with Mark Knopfler. He was replaced by Nightingale’s regular front line partner Andy Payani. I had seen the two of them together just two months previously. (for photos see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157633828721554/), although the rhythm section was completely different. I’ve photographed Ross Stanley with Dennis Rollins (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157630278465746/) and Karen Krog (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157625444178126/); and Steve Brown with Scott Hamilton / Katie Brown (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157629546016658/) and Anita Wardell (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157625071833654/). This was the first time I’ve taken photos of Sam Burgess, although I’ve seen him a few times (with Tom Cawley, James Pearson and Gwyneth Herbert).
