7th June 2013 at St Ethelburga’s, London EC2.

Part of "Listen to the World" series.

Country: Italy (British resident) & Greece (British resident). Style: Tarantella & Pizzica.

Lineup: Carla Pandarese (v/castanets/tamburello/dance), Simona De Leonardis (v/castanets/rainstick/dance), Massimiliano Passante (v/tamburello), Alfredo Giani (mandola/g/harmonica), Stelios Katsatsidis (chromatic accordion), with Mark Glanville (tamburello/ciaramella/v).

The group was formed by two members of the London based Friends of Puglia. The group plays mostly Pizzica - a form of Tarantella from the Salento peninsular. When their original accordionist returned to Italy, they recruited a Greek Stelios Katsatsidis, who I have photographed playing the music of his homeland: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157629612638048/ and www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157632268007582/. At this concert some of the band were absent - Antonio Fersini (guitar), Federico Tommasi (vocals/tamburello) and Pierpaolo Sicuro (flute). However they were joined by Mark Glanville, usually found singing Opera or Yiddish music.
