1st June 2013 at Kings Place (Hall Two), London N1.

The Time and the Place / Part of the Base series.

Country: Italy. Style: Jazz - Modern.

Lineup: Gianluigi Trovesi (clarinet/alto clarinet), Gianni Coscia (chromatic accordion).

Aged 69 and 82 and from Nembro (near Bergamo in Lombardy) and Alessandria (south east of Turin in Piedmont), this duo have been playing together for 25 years. Gianni Coscia was a lawyer for thirty years before focusing full time on music. I had seen them before on previous visits to the UK - at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in 2004 and also at Kings Place in 2010 (plus Gianluigi Trovesi as part of the Italian Instabile Orchestra in 2005 in the Purcell Room). They mainly played their own compositions apart from two jazz standards “Basin Street Blues” and John Lewis’ “Django”.
