23rd November 2012 at Barbican, London EC2.

Country: Mali. Style: Tuareg Rock Fusion.

Lineup: Hassan Ag Touhami (v/g), Abdullah Ag Alhousseyni (v/g), "Intidao" Abdallah Ag Lamid (v/g), Elaga Ag Hamid (g), Eyadou Ag Leche (bass g), Said Ag Ayad (djembe/calabash) and guest: Bastien Gsell (flute).

Tinariwen won the Songlines 2012 Best Group Award. Members of the band are Tuareg from the Kidal region in northeastern Mali. It was formed by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Hassan Ag Touhami and others in exile in southeastern Algeria in the 1980s. They became known internationally in 2001 after appearances at the Festival of the Desert and in Europe. The Islamicist takeover of much of Mali means that Ibrahim has remained at home and not been part of the touring band this year.
