14th November 2012 at SOAS (Brunei Gallery), London WC1.

Part of SOAS Concert Series (free event). www.soas.ac.uk/music/events/concerts/.

Country: Brazil (British resident). Style: Afro-Brazilian styles.

Lineup: Adriano Adewale [Itauna] (surdo/alfaia/conga/berimbau), Aluá Nascimento (conga/berimbau/kalimba/pandeiro/seed rattle/ocean drum), Gaio de Lima (bandolim/cavaquinho), Matheus Nova (bass g), Rebeca Vallim (v/agogo/shaker), Alba Cabral (v/tamborim/pandero/caxixi/triangulo), Leandra Varanda (v/ganzá/shaker).

Umpatacum was formed by Adriano Adewale to explore styles such as Baiao, Coco and Samba. The members of the band appear in numerous different lineups on the London Brazilian music scene. I’ve previously photographed Adriano Adewale with two different groups of his, Aluá Nascimento and Alba Cabral as a duo, Rebeca Vallim and Matheus Nova with Capital do Samba (plus the former with Maracatudo Mafuá and the latter with Anselmo Netto).
